Happy Earth Day!
Happy Earth Day from the Nerds at KDHRC! Each year, Earth Day grows increasingly important as technological advances threaten Earth’s future. Earth is the only home we have, and it’s up to us to protect it! Let’s talk about the steps we can do in our daily lives to make a difference: make recycling routine, cultivate a home garden, participate in community trash picks ups, shop second-hand, and consider alternative transportation to work!
- Recycling is more than just giving materials another purpose. Recycling saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, diverts waste from landfills, and more!
- Gardening improves air and soil quality, supports biodiversity, reduces carbon footprints, and conserves water.
- Whether it’s an organized event or something you do solo, trash pickups help to protect wildlife and prevent toxic chemicals from leaching into soil and water.
- Fast fashion may be accessible, but it is extremely detrimental to our environment through massive waste generation, intense water consumption, and high carbon emissions. Not to mention fast fashion clothes are not made to withstand the test of time and end up in landfills quickly. Shop second-hand to give great pieces a second life!
- Walking, biking, and carpooling help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower air pollution. These alternative transportation options will either give you some good exercise or a great car conversation with friends!
We can make a difference if we all work together to protect this home of ours.
