KDHRC Step Challenge: Appalachian Trail

As we continue to enjoy the spring weather of May, it’s also the start of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month! The KDHRC staff are serious about all aspects of health, including physical movement and wellness.

With a fully remote office environment, we know that it can sometimes be difficult to remember to get up from the desk and take a stretch break. Accordingly, KDHRC launched a friendly step challenge to virtually “hike” the Appalachian Trail and encourage staff members to hike every day. The KDHRC staffers are both in competition to see who can walk the most AND working together to get enough steps to cover the distance of the Appalachian Trail (about 2,190 miles)!

Tracking physical activity has never been easier in the day and age of technology with most smart phones featuring a health tracker.1 Wearable trackers, such as Fitbits and Apple Watches, have also increased in popularity in recent years, with almost one in three Americans owning a wearable device.

Many of our own staffers dug out their trackers for this spring’s step challenge and, as the weather warms up, we encourage everyone to get up from their desks, take a deep breath of fresh air outside, and maybe even get a few steps in!
