KDHRC attends the NACHW Unity Conference
Earlier this month, KDHRC staffers attended the National Association of Community Health Workers (NACHW) Unity Conference in Columbus, Ohio.
Staffers had the wonderful opportunity to connect and engage with many incredible community health workers (CHWs), CHW leadership, and CHW allies about the impactful work they do in their communities and the effective CHW professional development courses created by KDHRC. CHWs conduct wide-ranging education and outreach programs to connect community members with appropriate health and social services. CHWs are crucial because they bridge the gap between communities and the health system. Their deep understanding of the people they serve allows them to build trust, promote prevention, and improve health outcomes in ways that formal healthcare alone often cannot.
The theme of the conference was “From Legacy to Leadership: Healing and Transforming Communities Together,” which echoed throughout each speaker, vendor, and attendee. The conference was a huge success – boasting over 800 attendees, with 150 speakers and 62 sessions over three days. Topics covered during the conference ranged from policy and research; social determinants of health, chronic diseases, and even self-care for CHWs.
KDHRC is proud of all the work we do with CHWs and thanks the National Association for Community Health Workers for bringing together giants in the field to create such a transformative experience for all.
