Cardiac Rare Disease and Conditions (CARDIAC) Training

Welcome to Cardiac Rare Disease and Conditions (CARDIAC)!

CARDIAC is a Pfizer-funded, free one-hour provider training on a rare disease, Transthyretin Amyloidosis Cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM)—its characteristics, diagnosis, and relation to health disparities. ATTR-CM is often improperly diagnosed because symptoms, such as shortness of breath, fatigue, edema, dizziness and/or fainting, are similar to conventional heart failure. Indeed, ATTR-CM is treatable with early diagnosis. CARDIAC will increase the awareness and knowledge of providers about ATTR-CM to increase early diagnosis and save lives, particularly among the disproportionately affected men and in the African American population. Providers who view CARDIAC will be better equipped to recognize signs and symptoms of ATTR-CM among patients and refer patients for further screening.

Through CARDIAC, providers will be able to:

  • Describe the signs and symptoms of ATTR-CM
  • Understand the additional organs affected by ATTR-CM
  • Explain the difference between wild-type and hereditary ATTR-CM
  • Understand reasons for gender and race disparities in ATTR-CM
  • Diagnose ATTR-CM
  • Refer for treatment of ATTR-CM
