Joncel Stephens, MPH
Research Assistant

Areas of Focus: lupus awareness, chronic disease prevention, vulnerable populations

Joncel starts her public health career at KDHRC as a research assistant and currently supports the implementation and evaluation of the Patient Advocates for Lupus Studies (PALS) program. She also performs project management tasks with a pilot study of a lupus education mobile app and assists in commercialization efforts for one of KDHRC’s proprietary Latino health programs, Dientes Fuertes Vida Sana.

Joncel graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Biology. She obtained an M.P.H. from Georgia State University’s School of Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology. While in graduate school, Joncel worked as a graduate research assistant for a health literacy study with Georgia State’s Adult Literacy Research Center and completed her thesis, An Analysis of Prenatal Care in Georgia which has been submitted for publication.

In her free time, Joncel enjoys discovering recipes and cooking new foods, venturing to new restaurants and venues with friends, and reading the latest suspense or romance novel with her book club.
